My Thanksgiving table

Today I am thrilled to share my Thanksgiving table with you all! As most of you know I hosted in my little house. I don't have a large family, so it wasn't an issue. I had a fire lit (thanks to Matty) and served all of my favorite dishes.  Along with turkey we had candied sweet potatoes, whipped mashed potatoes, green beans, homemade stuffing and apple pie. The table setting mixed both vintage and new elements, including dessert dishes that have been in my family for years. The small dogs on the bar table were also my Grandmothers. My children and I gilded the pumpkins together to prep for the day and my assistant, Meg and my Mom helped me set the table. A great event isn't complete without a stocked bar! I included the bar area photos too. You can also get a glimpse of my message center area. You have to make great use of every inch of space in a small home!  Cheers, I hope you enjoyed seeing a bit of my home. I also wanted to thank the photographer  Ann - Marie Rollo f...

Thoughts on home...

With Fall approaching, I'm looking forward to focusing some of my energy and time on the inside of my home. Much like the cobbler anecdote, my projects tend to come last. I can't really bare to spend the gorgeous weekends indoors on "home" projects during the summer months. When the weather turns raw and chilly I enjoy focusing on my house!! This top image shows what I have done so far on my daughter Emerson's room. I had custom pillows made along with Pottery Barn Kids bedding.( PB Kids is having a 60% off  Labor Day Sale ) The walls are painted light pink in Clark+Kensington's :  Cherry Blossom 03D-1. It is a beautiful pale pink shade. The two images below are of my grandmother's (we called her Memere) bed. She was a very special person and I'm looking forward to using her bed in my daughter's room. Emmi and I chatted about her room this morning and we've decided to paint the bed a pretty yellow shade. I think the rug will be pink and white...

Steamer Trunk

While cleaning out the attic in order to get ready for my move,  my Dad came across a vintage black steamer trunk. This is almost identical to the one we found, except the brass is in better shape on mine. I'm contemplating keeping it to use as a bed side table. I'd shine up the brass and stack it with books and an oversized vintage lamp. (Another thought is to use it in my son's room)  Here are a few other ideas for the trunk. I can't wait to find a home!! I'm staying someplace temporarily while I search but my head is SPINNING with ideas!! Here is a snapshot of the trunk we found, it obviously needs some love but could look cool cleaned up. This fabulous Louis trunk is via Ivy and Vine. A Bar A coffee table Layer it under a table - I would still stack it with great coffee table books and the one I have may be too big to layer under a table. Although this isn't a trunk I love this shot. My thought is to use it in my office. It could house my favorite fabrics sa...

narrowed it down!

1. 2. 3. 4. I took a break from my own home design this summer..but now with Fall approaching {can't really believe it's 9.1} I need to finish my baby girl's nursery! I of course always love sharing my finished spaces with you, so I'll be sure to do so..! I've definitely decided I am going to design her headboard {there is a guest bed, that will eventually be her bed in the room} and call it Emerson {her name} and add it to my furniture line! {that's in the works and will be open, for sale, and added to my website by mid-winter - beyond excited about this !}.. So here's my question to you..because you may be future customers right? What's your favorite? I will of course tweak the design a bit, but I'm leaning towards a timeless, feminine feel! {oh and would I love to use Leontine Linens? - you bet cha ,, but unless they have a huge sale, it's not going to happen in a child's room} image credits: Coastal Living , Kimberly Ayres , ?, La D...

Emerson's room - back to work!

When I return from Vermont {see yesterday's post} I'm going to resume work on Emerson's room! Don't you know designers always finish their homes last? Okay so now the point of my post. I've got a cute little dresser that I'm planning to paint! I really want to mix two colors, but I'm not sure of how I'm going to approach it! I'm liking both the idea of either painting the architectural details white {above} or the drawers a lighter shade {below - love how this works with white and light grey} + finally I'm pretty sure the main color for the piece is going to be lemon yellow - {the shade below to be exact} images: ?, The Decorista , Thomas Smythe

Which do you like?

Deep Grey Diamond Okay, so I had to return a West Elm rug today, it was in my living room but just wasn't holding up well! so now I need another rug {from W.E. - with my credit} and I'm torn. I love both the diamond and Chevron ( zig - zag) look. I feel like the diamond looks a little fresher and would most likely hide stains better {I have a three and six month old}. So I ask you.. Which do you prefer ? Diamond or Zig - Zag ? If you read my blog regularly, it's going in my living room, {as seen here }which as quite a bit of dark brown..but I'm thinking of mixing in deep charcoal. My husband just painted the inside of my back door black and I'm loving the look, so I'm going to have him paint the inside of my front doors too! (oh btw . I used Zorro by C2 - it's a rich inky-grey black, love it!} + an update on my gallery style art wall. {PLEASE excuse the poor photography - I don't have much light in my foyer - when I'm done I'll have this profes...

Working on {personally}

a picture wall in my entry-way! It's almost done..I'll be sure to post it soon! images: J onny Valiant , via white and wander blog , lonny mag

Couldn't Resist!

I think when choosing a piece of art it should move you, speak to you and this little guy just did! So I bought him for Emerson's room! I discovered this watercolor among many others via the Etsy shop of Italian artist DIMDi via High Street Market {one of my newer favorite blogs - she sells some amazing finds}! Can't wait to see my piece..I'm slowly but surely gathering unique goodies for my little pumpkin's nursery.

That's it...

The house next to mine recently sold, it had been empty for a while..for me that means I need to make a move on my window treatment decisions sooner then later. My kitchen and dining room feel more like a fish bowl then a home. I'm going to order the kitchen treatments first, for functionality and the occasional "air-born" bowl of spaghetti {hurled by my son of course}. I need a choice that easily wipes clean. After being inspired by the above image, it was clear that bamboo blinds were the perfect solution. They're durable, affordable and work with a diversity of styles. I'm ordering samples today from here and here . images: Ruthie Sommers via Traditional Home, Lonny, The Decorista

Found it!

The other day, I took a trip to Zimman's {an amazing discount fabric store near my home}in Lynn...I was in search of the "parrot" green fabric for my next "home project" - my dining chairs.{which I have yet to purchase} Read my original post here . I was thrilled when I scored the perfect green fabric..discount stores are often hit or miss! Love this look and am going to purchase white Louis IXV chairs. I also brought home a sample of the perfect coral pink; my plan is to design an oversized, skirted ottoman for my living room similar to the one pictured below. { by Nate Berkus }

Thank you, Thank you

I wanted to thank you all for your kind comments on my "ongoing home design". I truly appreciate each and everyone of my readers!! I also wanted to list some of the sources that you asked for..My home is a mix of vintage and new. I always have to keep a budget in mind and splurge on my absolute "have to have" favorites. Oh and if you live near a Home Goods they just received a great selection of lamps {a weakness for me}. I bought the one pictured below, it's hand made porcelain. I just loved the intricate details..It's either going to my daughter's nursery, which I need to start working on, or my master bedroom! Sources: Foyer: Mirror - White Coral Mirror - Ballard Designs Black console - vintage, I painted it black and replaced the hardware - Muffs Hardware {beware include the word hardware, I made that mistake} Living Room: White Chairs - Pottery Barn Vases - Vintage Paint Color - Dorian Gray - C2. It's a light grey with aqua undertones, very so...

Sneak Peek - Snapshots of my home!

I've received a number emails over the past few months asking to see some images of my own home! Let me begin by saying it's a work in progress. As most designers can attest, I can conceptualize a client's home down to the smallest detail but when it comes to my own home I {as my friend Erin from Elements of Style says} I have design A.D.D.! I know the cause, I LOVE so many styles and objects; it's so hard to choose one direction for my own space or even two for that matter! I'll share more photos when the rooms are completed! I'm focusing on the living and dining rooms now {when I can grab a moment here and there ;) that is...}. Happy Monday! My image board!
