Pulau Perhentian

Pulau Perhentian About 20km off the coast of Terengganu, lies Pulau Perhentian (Perhentian Island). Consists of Pulau Perhentian Kecil (Small) and Perhentian Besar (Big), they are among the most beautiful islands in Malaysia. It has everything to offer for all kinds of visitors, from snorkeling, scuba diving and trekking for the adventurous to the white sandy beaches and aquamarine waters for those who just want to relax. Pulau Perhentian Kecil Aur Bay – Perhentian Kecil The smaller of the two islands, Pulau Perhentian Kecil is the more popular island among the two. Most visitors will stay at Pasir Panjang (or Long Beach). As it name implies, it is a long stretch of white sandy beach, with a string of resorts, budget chalets and cafes. At night, it transforms into a disco-like atmosphere with its loud music all along the beach. Hence, it can get a little bit overcrowded and noisy during the night. There are accommodation to suit all ki...

KOLAM PANCING DANAU SERENDAH, HULU SELANGOR

What to Know About Fly Fishing in New Zealand

By Christeen Savinovich   The first thing to know about fly fishing in New Zealand is that the experience you have there will be unlike any other. The proximity to two bodies of water, the sheer amount of marine life and the abundance of tour guides and fly fishing expeditions make this country a fly fisherman’s paradise.   The Geography of the Country Makes it Ideal for an Incredible Fly Fishing Experience New Zealand is an island and as islands are surrounded by water they often make the best places for any kind of fishing in general. You are never more than an hour and fifteen minutes away from the coast from any point on the island so you can visit several different spots a day and experience all the different types of streams, springs, creeks, rivers, lakes with huge populations of fish. New Zealand is unique, however, in that it is sandwiched between two different bodies of water. The Pacific Ocean and the Tasman Sea host different types of marine...

The Amazon

At 4,080 miles, the Amazon is the largest river system in the world with a drainage area of over two and a half million square miles. Although the Nile in Africa is the world’s longest river, for the sheer volume of water the Amazon is certainly and without any doubt, the greatest. More than 1000 tributaries lead into this mighty stream. Some of the ‘feeder’ rivers are over 1000 miles long. During the rainy season the Amazon spews 28 billion gallons of water into the Atlantic, the equivalent of twelve Mississippi rivers. This fresh water dilutes the salinity of the sea for more than 100 miles off-shore. Twenty-five per cent of the world’s freshwater emanates from the Amazon. The Amazon starts its amazing journey high in the Andes in Peru less than 100 miles from the Pacific Ocean. Many little streamlets combine to form, first the Ucayali and then the Maranon Rivers. It is also joined by the mighty Urabamba River which flows through the secret valley of the Incas near Cuzco not fa...

Malaysia Fishing Guide

Malaysia Fishing Guide (best spots, information & tips) Fishes The country is rich with fish fauna. There are over 700 species of sea fishes whilst our rivers and lakes provide 360 species. Development and industrialisation has depleted many of these freshwater fishes, although most of those affected are of the aquarium variety. There are still 60 species of fish that can be caught on rod and line. Please refer to the Freshwater Fishes section for listings. Many of the fishes are of the carp family, the largest being the rare temoleh (Probarbus jullieni), a striped carp that can grow to 50 kg. (110 lb.). It can be found only in two rivers (the Perak and Pahang). In fact, other than a river in Thailand, these are the only homes for the fish in the world. The sebarau (Hampala macrolepidota) is a popular carp among river anglers. Erroneously referred to as Malaysian Jungle Perch, it is a roving piscivore that readily takes lures. It can grow beyond 15 kg. (33 lb.0 alt...
